The History of The Hairy Pig

The Hairy Pig Deli begins as a dream during a wild boar hunt in the Loire Valley in France. Chef Joseph Turner has an idea to one day open up a restaurant "The Hairy Pig". Little does he know that one day the dream will come true, but much further north with future wife and business partner Karolina Turner.

After achieving a diploma at the internationally known culinary school Leith's School of Food and Wine in London, Joseph continues his culinary development at restaurants in Dubai, Spain, England, as well as in the French Alps and the Channel islands.

The married couple arrives to Sweden

In 2008, Joseph and Karolina become class friends at the Swiss hotel and restaurant school “The International School of Hotel Management Les Roches”. Their common interest, passion and ideas within the hospitality industry brings them together.

After accomplishing their studies in Spain, Joseph and Karolina move to Sweden. Joseph gains experience in Swedish cooking under Chef “Peter Nordin” before becoming Head Chef of “Villa Godthem” in Djurgården. Karolina on the other hand, continues enhancing her practical knowledge at Destination Sigtuna after having worked at Diplomat Hotel in Stockholm, W Hotel Barcelona and Hard Rock Café in Paris and many more.

The Hairy Pig Deli opens its doors for the first time in May 2014

In May 2014 the owners Joseph and Karolina open up the doors to their first restaurant, The Hairy Pig Deli with specialties such as home made sausages, pulled pork, home smoked salmon. The aim is to spread their passion for home made, high quality food products and beverages.

2016 - The Hairy Pig Restaurant opens up

After the success of The Hairy Pig Deli, Joseph and Karolina decide to open up their second restaurant with their team. And still today, “The Hairy Pig” from the wild boar hunt in the Loire Valley hangs to be seen in their first restaurant The Hairy Pig Deli’s window in the Old Town as a memory of where it all began.
